What is the T. Howard Foundation Scott Weiss Scholarship?
- The Scott Weiss Scholarship provides T. Howard Foundation alumni with financial assistance for their academic and career pursuits. The scholarship is awarded based on merit as defined by the Foundation.
Where can I find the online application?
- The application is closed for 2025 and will reopen in August of 2026. If you are an alumnus of a T. Howard Foundation internship, you are automatically notified when the application opens.
How much is a scholarship and what can the scholarship award be used for?
- Awards are $5,000 and are intended to be used for professional development opportunities to advance an individual’s education or career in the media, entertainment, and technology industries. Professional development is defined as any opportunity, experience, task, project, or continued education that fosters the development of new skills and technical abilities for the advancement of one’s career. It should assist the individual in honing existing skills and learning new ones that are either suggested or required to further your intended career trajectory.
Who is eligible to apply?
- Applicants must:
- have successfully completed a THF internship
- have not served as a member of the scholarship committee within the past three years
- submit full and complete application which includes a short answer essay and a proposal along with an updated resume and most recent transcript
If I receive one Scott Weiss Scholarship award, am I eligible to receive another scholarship award?
- Yes, but you can receive no more than two Scott Weiss Scholarship awards in total. You must maintain eligibility and complete the application process again to be considered for a second scholarship.
Is there a cost to apply for a scholarship?
- There is no fee to apply for a Scott Weiss Scholarship.
What are the important dates to keep in mind?
- The application is open each fall.
- All application materials, including letter of recommendation, are due by the application deadline.
- Scholarship recipients are announced no later than December 1.
What else must I submit in addition to the online application form?

What is the process for the academic/professional recommendations?
- In the application, you will provide contact information for your recommenders.
- A link to the recommendation form will be sent directly to your recommender via email. They will be prompted to log in or create an account to complete the form.
- Your recommender must complete your recommendation form before the application deadline.
Are the scholarship awards taxable?
- Please check the IRS website to verify the taxable status of your award.
How does the Foundation make the decision regarding who receives a scholarship?
- Scholarships are awarded based on academic merit (transcript), quality content and clear articulation in the essay, professional development proposal, and resume, demonstrating the pursuit of a career in the media and entertainment industry. The Scott Weiss Scholarship has an external committee that reviews applications and makes recommendations for scholarship recipients.
When will I be notified of the decision?
- You will be notified no later than December 1 whether you have been awarded a scholarship.
Will the T. Howard Foundation release any of the personal information that I submit?
- All information received is confidential and will only be reviewed by the appropriate scholarship review committee members who agree to maintain confidentiality.
