When Jo Pamphile retired last year as President/CEO of the T. Howard Foundation after nearly 20 years, the nonprofit dedicated to placing college students in media, tech and entertainment through its internship placement program had a strong bench to pull from for her replacement.

“I was on the board for 17 years, and I watched people’s lives change. I watched dreams come true, and that kind of mirrored my career of opening doors for others. So, it seemed like a natural step for me to come in,” said Judi Lopez, who was named as T. Howard’s CEO in August.

Having spent two terms as chair of the nonprofit, she’d worked closely with Pamphile and has seen the group evolve from a satellite-only organization to one that includes cable and streaming services. As CEO, she’s focused on scale and diversifying revenue, scoring an early win in January with the NBA Foundation awarding T. Howard a grant to expand education and training programs for interns and alumni. She’s also looking to expand T. Howard’s breadth, including by working with companies in the creator economy.
