Alumni Spotlight: Maria Medrano

FORBES – Under 30 Summit is a four-day, immersive summit featuring A- list speakers, speed pitching, community service and more! Hear THF Alumni talk about their experiences at this year’s event.

Can you tell us about your Forbes Under 30 experience?

It’s quite interesting, I usually work at events (being that it’s my fulltime job). This was the first time I was able to attend a summit but from a guest’s perspective – and I thought it was GREAT! Each day had something new and interesting that I really wanted to attend, and I was not disappointed with the content experience. Overall, I think I left more motivated and inspired to continue in the field I’m currently in and looking forward to attending more summits in the near future.

What was your most memorable/rewarding moment at the summit?

I’d have to say the ‘Future in Sports Marketing’ speaker session. The speakers were four professional women in the sports marketing industry, all with different backgrounds and areas of expertise. So empowering! I hope to be one of those women and speak in a panel to young professionals someday!

Tell us about a few of the events, you attended.

Another event I attended was the ‘Lunch with Kevin Durant’ session. I’m a big NBA fan so to hear a Q&A session by an all-star athlete was the highlight of my Wednesday.

The ‘One on One with Quavo’ was also amazing to witness. It was incredible to hear him speak from an entrepreneur perspective and also from an entertainment perspective. Not only did I learn about his businesses and how he is helping the community he grew up in, but I also learned how he never gave up, no matter what circumstances he faced.

What was your biggest takeaway from the summit?

You should never let someone bring you done on the dream or idea you have for yourself. The journey will not be easy, but that’s the beauty of it all. As long as you work at it every day, you will get to your ultimate goal. If you don’t keep working to master your craft, somebody else will.

What advice would you give to THF interns/alumni interested in the 2020  Forbes Under 30 Summit?

Apply! It does not hurt to try and do it while you’re still a student. Being a student has so many perks from internships, to programs, or to summits like these – do as much as you can! This summit is great to get connected with others (around the same age) that you can learn and grow with. Trust me when I say, you will not be alone!

How has the Forbes Under 30 Summit helped you set goals for your future and how do you plan to achieve them?

The Forbes Under 30 Summit shined a light at what the future can look back 5 years from now. Seeing those women at the Sports Marketing panel was so inspirational. All coming from different backgrounds, different ages, and different professional tracks, helped me feel a sense of relief with my professional track. I hope to seek a mentor that can help me achieve my goals in mastering my profession and become an executive for my dream company.
