We recruit nationwide, from various academic disciplines for undergraduate and graduate students. Applicants must be legally eligible to work in the United States and available to work full-time between the months of June and August. Are these internships with the T. Howard Foundation or a media company? The internships are with companies operating within the multimedia entertainment industry. These include cable, satellite, programmers, manufacturers, publishers, internet, telecommunications and consulting firms. Participating companies partner with the T. Howard Foundation to select and host interns. Where do T. Howard internships take place? Internships take place at host company sites all over the country. The most popular locations are New York City, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and multiple cities in Connecticut and Denver. Opportunities in these cities vary from year to year. Which academic majors can apply for T. Howard internships? We accept applications from all majors including: Broadcasting, Business, Communications, Computer Science/Information Technology, Economics, Engineering, English, Finance, Graphic Design, Marketing, and Public Relations. We also recruit graduate students pursing MBA’s, MFA, and JD’s. Students majoring in COMPUTER SCIENCE, ENGINEERING, and IT are strongly encouraged to apply. Is there an application fee? No! Howard interns paid? Yes! Our undergraduate interns are paid a minimum of $10.00 per hour and graduate students receive a minimum of $12.00 an hour for a full work week for a minimum eight-week internship. How do I apply for a T. Howard internship? To apply for a T. Howard internship you must complete an online application form and submit your resume and essay online. You must also provide an official letter of recommendation and official transcript to the Foundation via regular mail. When are applications due? All application materials are due December 31, 2008 for summer 2009 internships. How does the application review process work? There are two phases to the application review process. Phase I is a review of your resume, essay, official transcript, and official letter of recommendation. Applicants who successfully pass Phase I will move to Phase II, which consists of a phone interview. Applicants who pass both phases are placed in our final talent pool which means that you are eligible to be placed as a T. Howard intern with one of our industry partners. Does being in the Final Talent Pool guarantee and internship? No, the T. Howard Foundation does not guarantee internship placement. Which companies will see my resume? When one of our partner Host Companies submits a request for an intern, we will cross reference their request with our final talent pool. If your profile and skills match the needs of the company’s request, your resume will be sent to that company for review and consideration. We will notify you if your resume is sent and provide you support during the company’s review process. Who decides if I get an internship? Once a Host Company has your resume they will decide whether or not they want to call you for an interview. The Host Company decides which students they will take as interns, not the T. Howard Foundation. What happens if I’m not selected for a T. Howard internship? The T. Howard Foundation does not guarantee you internship placement. We are providing access to exclusive internship opportunities in a very competitive field at no cost. If you are not selected for an internship but are still enrolled in an accredited school at the close of summer, you may be considered for future internship opportunities. What is expected if I get the internship? If a Host Company selects you as an intern, you are expected to take the placement and commit to that Host Company. Start date, length of internship, weekly schedule, and all other logistics are decided between you and your Host Company. Is there an orientation? Yes! Students placed as T. Howard interns must attend the two-day Internship Orientation prior to beginning their internships. The Orientation typically takes place in the first week of June in Washington, DC. Travel to the event, accommodations, and meals are covered by the Foundation. What kind of support is provided to T. Howard interns during their internships? The T. Howard Foundation is here for you throughout your placement at our Host Company partner. You will be assigned a mentor for the summer; a T. Howard intern alumnus currently working in the industry. The Foundation’s Program Manager is also available for guidance. ARE YOU READY TO APPLY FOR A T. HOWARD INTERNSHIP? CLICK HERE! |
