Who is eligible to become a T. Howard summer intern?
Summer internships through the T. Howard Foundation are open to young women and students of color who are enrolled full-time as undergraduate or graduate students at accredited colleges and universities. They must be legally eligible to work in the United States and available to work full-time between the months of June and August.
What are the T. Howard Foundation’s criteria for placing an applicant in their talent pool?
In addition to the basic requirements listed above an applicant must meet additional criteria before they can be placed in our talent pool. Successful applicants will have a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in the multimedia and entertainment industry. We also consider personal character, oral and written communication skills, previous employment or internship experience, and overall enthusiasm.
Is there a minimum GPA for T. Howard interns?
The T. Howard Foundation does not have a minimum GPA requirement. However if a Host Company requests candidates within a specific GPA range we will provide applicants from our talent pool accordingly.
What kinds of academic majors are included in the T. Howard Foundation’s talent pool?
We recruit applicants from a broad range of academic studies including: Broadcasting, Business, Communications, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, English, Finance, Graphic Design, Information Technology, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, and Telecommunications. We also recruit graduate students pursing MBA’s, MFA, JD’s, and other advanced degrees.
Are T. Howard interns paid?
Yes. Our undergraduate interns are paid a minimum of $10.00 per hour and graduate students receive a minimum of $12.00 an hour for a full 40 hour work week. Host companies are free to pay a higher hourly rate. Host companies are not required to provide any other additional benefits such as housing or transportation.
Is there a fee for requesting a T. Howard intern?
No. The T. Howard Foundation is committed to being a diversity resource for our industry partners and we provide this service free of charge. However, we request that prospective host companies plan accordingly by incorporating the hourly rate for the number of interns they plan to request in the annual budgets.
What are the actual costs of hosting a T. Howard intern?
The actual cost of hosting a T. Howard intern is their salary which paid directly to the intern. It is best to include this in your annual budget as soon as possible. Based on the minimum rates, for a 40-hour work week, for a minimum of 8-weeks, a prospective Host Company should reserve $3,200 for an undergraduate student or $3,840 for a graduate student per each intern requested.
