What is the T. Howard Foundation (THF)?

The T. Howard Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote diversity in the multimedia and entertainment industry.  The Foundation fulfills its mission by providing an internship program for minority students.  T. Howard Foundation interns are placed at major media companies that partner with the Foundation in support of its mission. To read our history click here

I am currently a freshman, can I apply?

Applicants must be in sophomore status at the time of application (24 credit hours or more by December 1).

Who should I use to complete my recommendation?

Someone who can speak to your work ethic such as a previous or current supervisor, advisor, faculty, coach or volunteer coordinator. Please do not use family or friends.

How can I find out the status of my application?

After you submit your application you can expect to receive an decision within 14 business day. All communication happens via email so please check your SPAM filter for t-howard.org email addresses.

Are these internships with the T. Howard Foundation or a media company?

Internships are with companies operating within the multimedia entertainment industry. They include cable, satellite, programmers, manufacturers, publishers, internet, telecommunications and consulting firms. Participating companies partner with the T. Howard Foundation to select and host interns.

Where do T. Howard internships take place?

Internships take place at host company sites across the country. The most common locations in order are New York, NY,  Washington, DC, Los Angeles, CA,  Atlanta,GA 5) Charlotte, NC and Philadelphia, PA. The Foundation has also placed interns in other cities including; Denver, CO; San Francisco, CA; San Antonio, TX; Syracuse, NY and Stamford, CT. 

Is housing provided?

Neither the T. Howard Foundation or our host company partners are responsible for providing housing.

Which academic majors can apply for T. Howard internships?

Our Internship program is open to all majors. 

When are applications due?

The T. Howard Foundation has two deadlines: October 31st, 2012 and December 1st, 2012 at 11:59 PM.

Students interested in a Spring 2012 internship must submit an application by October 31st, 2012.

Is there an application fee?

There is a non-refundable $10 application fee.

Is there a minimum GPA for T. Howard interns?

At the date of application, students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale.

Are T. Howard interns paid?

Summer internships are paid positions.  Undergraduate summer interns earn a minimum of $10 per hour and Graduate student summer interns receive a minimum of $12 per hour. 

Most fall and spring interns are unpaid.

Am I at a disadvantage if I can not participate in an in-person interview?

No. All interviews will be evaluated equally.

Does being in the Final Talent Pool guarantee an internship?

No, the T. Howard Foundation does not guarantee internship placement.  Final selection of the intern is made by the Host Company.

Which companies will see my resume?

When one of our partner Host Companies submits a request for an intern, we will cross reference their request with our Final Talent Pool. If your profile and skills match the needs of the company’s request, your resume will be sent to that company for review and consideration. We will notify you before your resume is sent and provide you support during the company’s review process.

Who decides if I get an internship?

Once a Host Company has your resume they will decide whether or not they want to call you for an interview. The Host Company decides which student(s) they will select as their intern(s).

What happens if I’m not selected for a T. Howard internship?

The T. Howard Foundation does not guarantee you internship placement. We are providing an opportunity to gain access to internships in a highly successful and competitive industry. However, if you are not selected for a summer internship but are still enrolled in an accredited school at the close of summer, you may be considered for fall and spring internship opportunities.

What is expected if I get the internship?

If a Host Company selects you as an intern, you are expected to take the placement and commit to that Host Company. Start date, length of internship, weekly schedule, and all other logistics are decided between you and your Host Company.

As a T. Howard Foundation intern, you are required to attend all T. Howard Foundation events, including Orientation and the Internship Debriefing sessions.

Is there an orientation?

Yes! Students placed as T. Howard interns must attend the 2 1/2-day Internship Orientation prior to beginning their internships.

Orientation takes place in the first week of June and will be hosted in Washington, DC metro area.  Travel to the event, accommodations, and some meals are covered by the Foundation.

What kind of support is provided to T. Howard interns during their internships?

The T. Howard Foundation is here for you throughout your placement at your Host Company partner. You will be assigned a mentor for the summer. In addition, the Foundation’s Program Staff is available for guidance and support.
